Indonesia’s role in the development and evolution of choral music in the Asia-Pacific region has been acknowledged through the international success of Indonesian choirs, the fine work of its composers and conductors, and the highly successful 1st Asian Choir Games held in Jakarta November 2007. The North Sulawesi International Choir Competition builds on these successes.
The city of Manado, capital of North Sulawesi, has thousands of active choirs that will both host the Competition and introduce visitors to the tremendous choral tradition of the region. Manado is also well-known as a popular tourist destination. The natural beauty and cultural features of the area include: Bunaken’s ocean park, Tomohon’s Flower Festival, Minahasa’s delicious cuisine, and the welcoming warmth of the Minahasa people.
The North Sulawesi International Choir Competition will support other area conferences: Visit Indonesia Year 2008, Tomohon Flower Festival 2008, World Ocean Conference 2009, and Manado: World’s Tourism City 2010. |
